The Abu Dhabi Art Commission: A Platform for Emerging Talent
The Abu Dhabi Art Commission is a highly anticipated annual event that showcases the work of up-and-coming artists from the UAE. Each year, the commission commissions new work from a diverse range of talented artists, providing a unique platform for them to gain exposure and recognition.
The Curator’s Vision
This year’s exhibition, Beyond: Emerging Artists 2024, will be curated by Lorenzo Fiaschi, an Italian art historian and curator with a passion for promoting emerging talent. Fiaschi’s vision for the exhibition is to create a platform that not only showcases the work of these talented artists but also provides a unique perspective on the UAE’s cultural and artistic landscape.
The Artists
The exhibition will feature works by 15 UAE-based artists, each with their own unique style and approach to art. The artists have been selected from a pool of over 100 applicants, and their work will be on display at Manarat Al Saadiyat from November 20-24. The artists’ work will span a range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, and installation. The exhibition will also include a series of artist talks and workshops, providing visitors with the opportunity to engage with the artists and learn more about their creative processes.*
The Exhibition Venue
The exhibition will take place at Manarat Al Saadiyat, a state-of-the-art cultural center located on Saadiyat Island. The venue offers stunning views of the Arabian Gulf and is equipped with modern facilities and amenities. The exhibition will be open to the public and free of charge, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors.
The Selection Process
The selection process for the Abu Dhabi Art exhibition was rigorous and involved multiple rounds of evaluation. The organizing committee, in collaboration with GALLERIA CONTINUA, reviewed over 100 proposals from artists from around the world.
“They were all very well thought out, and each one had its own unique strengths and weaknesses,” she noted. “It was a very difficult decision to make, but ultimately, the winning proposal was the one that best captured the essence of the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s mission and vision.”
