The festival will take place from 15th to 17th March 2024, and will feature a range of activities and events.

Festival Overview

The First Fortnight Festival is an annual celebration of mental health, arts, and culture. The festival aims to promote mental wellbeing, creativity, and community engagement.

Young people and local professionals collaborate to create stunning light art display.

The Light Art Project

The Light Art Project is a unique and innovative initiative that brings together young people, local professionals, and the community to create a stunning display of light art. The project is designed to inspire creativity, foster collaboration, and promote the use of light as a medium for artistic expression.

The Process

The project begins with a series of workshops, where young people will learn the basics of light art and photography from local professional photographer Louise Scally. The workshops will cover topics such as:

  • Understanding the principles of light and shadow
  • Using different light sources and techniques
  • Experimenting with different materials and textures
  • Developing their own unique style and vision
  • During the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to work individually and in groups, exploring different themes and ideas. They will also have the chance to share their work and receive feedback from Louise and other participants.

    The Final Display

After the workshops, the photographs will be selected and edited to create a cohesive and visually stunning display. The final display will be projected onto the Templeshannon Community Centre wall on January 11 and 12. The event will be open to the public, and attendees will be able to view the light art pieces in person.

    Community Engagement

The Light Art Project is not just about creating beautiful art; it’s also about engaging with the community. The project will provide a platform for young people to showcase their talents and share their ideas with others.
